New Delhi: Petrol and diesel prices rose again on Saturday after a one-day stabilization. In the four major metros of the country, petrol prices were hiked by about 30 to 39 paise and diesel by 24 to 32 paise. Therefore, in Mumbai, petrol will cost Rs 106.93 per liter and diesel Rs 97.46 per liter. Earlier on Wednesday and Thursday, fuel prices were seen rising. In Delhi, petrol is priced at Rs 100.91 per liter and diesel at Rs 89.88 per liter. In Kolkata, petrol costs Rs 101.01 per liter and diesel Rs 92.97 per liter. Currently, cities in Maharashtra have the highest fuel prices. In most cities of the state, petrol has reached Rs 105 per liter and diesel is soon on the verge of crossing the 100 mark.

Six-fold increase in July

Since the dawn of July, petrol prices have gone up six times and diesel four times. Earlier in June, petrol and diesel prices were hiked 16 times. May also saw a 16-fold jump in fuel prices. Petrol and diesel prices were hiked from May 4 after five state elections, including West Bengal. Fuel prices remained stable for 18 consecutive days during this election period. However, after the election results were announced, fuel prices began to rise sharply.

Hundreds of petrol in 17 states

Mumbai, Ratnagiri, Aurangabad, Jaisalmer, Ganganagar, Hyderabad, Leh, Baswada, Indore, Jaipur, Bhopal, Gwalior, Guntur, Kakinada, Chikmagalur, Shivamogga and Chennai are among the major cities in the country where petrol has reached hundreds.

So far, petrol has gone beyond 100 in 17 states and union territories. These include Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Ladakh, Karnataka, Jammu and Kashmir, Odisha, Bihar, Kerala, Sikkim, Delhi and West Bengal.

The price almost doubled after the original price of petrol-diesel included excise duty, dealers’ commission and other things. Petrol and diesel prices depend on developments in the international market.
